Statement on Conflict Materials
Clow Stamping Company aligns with Congress and the International Business Community in expressing concerns that earnings from the extraction of cassiterite, columbite-tantalite, gold, wolframite, and their derivatives tin, tantalum, and tungsten (Conflict Minerals in the Democratic Republic of Congo “DRC” or its neighboring countries) may contribute to human rights abuses.
As a service to our customers intending to comply with Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, Clow Stamping Company is proud to announce that we will not knowingly purchase “Conflict Minerals,” nor will we knowingly purchase from suppliers that do. Clow Stamping Company will continue to keep apprised of the current and potential future requirements set forth and conduct periodic audits of the material certifications received at Clow to verify that none of the conflict minerals exist within them.
Proposition 65 Statement
Proposition 65 warnings can be found on many manufactures’ products and packaging, including ours. These warnings are a result of a California State Law passed in 1986 – the California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, also commonly known as Proposition 65.
What is Proposition 65?
The purpose of Prop 65 is to ensure the public is informed about the potential exposure to chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Proposition 65 requires the State of California to publish a list of these chemicals. This list currently contains over 900 chemicals and continues to expand. The law also requires companies to provide a warning on their products and / or packaging if they contain these chemicals. Chemicals on this list can be found in many everyday items. A warning must be given if the listed chemical is present in the product unless it can be demonstrated that the chemical poses “no significant risk.” Some of our products may have traces of various chemicals that are on the list contained within the coating on the part.
What does Proposition 65 warning mean?
The warning does not mean our products will inevitably cause cancer or reproduction harm. Proposition 65 may be best defined as a “Right to Know” law and Proposition 65 warnings are not an indication that a product is violating safety standards or regulations.
Why do some products include this warning?
Proposition 65 law applies to any company operating, manufacturing, or selling products in the state of California. Our products are sold internationally and it would be difficult or impossible to place warnings only on products shipped to or sold in California. At this time, we have chosen to include this warning on the packing slip of our products to ensure compliance with Proposition 65 law, regardless of destination.
